Therapeutics 101
What is a therapeutic?
Therapeutics are defined as a medicine that is concerned with the treatment and remedy of a disease or condition. They are THC products that are not flower or concentrate/cartridges, that will provide medicinal relief.
Why do I even need to know this?
Knowing what a therapeutic is, and what they are in our store, is very important so we are directing our customers with specific ailments to the product that will work best for them. We also need to keep in mind that therapeutics are an important part of holistic medicine and alleviating symptoms for people that are looking for alternatives to prescriptions and other medication that can be damaging to their body.
What is a therapeutic in the cannabis setting then, and what ones do we carry?
Mary's Medicinals will be the main brand of therapeutics that we have.
Patches: Patches are great for people with lots of pain, and are looking for hours' worth of relief. In order to get the most relief from a patch, it needs to be placed on a venous part of the body.
~ A good reminder is that if they have pain from the waist up, it goes on the inside of the wrist.
~ If they have pain from the waist down, it goes on the top of the foot.
~ If they have lower back pain, I like to recommend that they cut the patch in half (or quartered, depending on their tolerance), and put one on the top of the foot, and the other one on the inside of the opposite wrist.
Lotions: Rubs, Roll-Ons, and Lotions are all amazing products for immediate pain relief. The customer would take a small sample of the rub, and rub it directly into the spot that is painful. Some rubs will be greasier than others, some will have stronger scents than others, so it will be important to at least look at the consistencies and smell them when you're able to, so you can let customers know.
Tablets: Tablets and pills are good for people that want the effects of edibles, but do not or cannot consume certain ingredients due to allergies or other dietary restrictions.
Tinctures: Tinctures are a great product for people that are looking for very quick effects. They are very concentrated and work quickly because they are typically ingested sublingually - meaning it's put under the tongue and then enters the bloodstream. Most people will consume a tincture this way, but you can also add it to food or drink as well. I like to recommend they put it in their coffee in the morning, if they don't necessarily like the taste of it under the tongue. I don't recommend putting a tincture on the skin, as it was made with a solvent (typically ethanol) and it will dry the skin out.
